What is the Social Innovation Lab?

The Social Innovation Lab is a platform that aims to empower youth, entrepreneurs, professionals, the private sector, and civil society organizations to actively participate in developing innovative solutions to the most pressing societal challenges within priority sectors. The Lab is based on leveraging technology and creative ideas as key tools to drive positive change and contribute to achieving sustainable development.

The 2026 Social Innovation Lab is implemented by Ruwwad Foundation, in collaboration with DeepRoot Consulting, as part of the five-year Wathba Program, funded by the European Union and the HSA Group (Hayel Saeed Anam & Co.) and its partners. The program aims to strengthen the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Yemen.

The 2026 edition of the Lab focuses on the blue economy sector, targeting challenges related to the blue economy and technological advancement within this sector, with the objective of developing innovative solutions that create real and sustainable impact in this vital field.

It is worth noting that the first edition of the Lab was implemented in 2024, funded by the HSA Group and the Embassy of the Netherlands, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). This edition focused on challenges related to the agricultural sector under the theme “Agricultural Production and Agri-Tech.” It successfully generated and supported more than 20 innovative ideas, marking a qualitative shift in the development of innovative solutions in the agricultural field.

The second edition of the Social Innovation Lab was implemented in 2025 by Ruwwad Foundation in collaboration with DeepRoot Consulting under the Wathba Program funded by the European Union and the HSA Group and its partners, targeting the education sector. This edition focused on challenges related to education and successfully generated and supported more than 20 innovative ideas, representing a significant step forward in developing innovative solutions within the education field.

Social innovation labs are considered a strategic response to social and economic challenges, representing a new approach to solving complex problems. During the Lab, work is carried out according to structured phases.

The Social Innovation Lab aims to promote creativity, entrepreneurship, and social impact by encouraging participants to think critically, collaborate, and develop practical solutions to real-world problems. The Lab provides individuals with the opportunity to showcase their skills, connect with sector experts and potential investors, and potentially launch their own ventures based on their Lab projects. The Social Innovation Lab seeks to design and implement new solutions—whether conceptual, procedural, product-based, organizational, or structural—in order to improve the well-being of individuals and communities. It addresses challenges facing key social and economic sectors while leveraging innovation and collaboration among relevant stakeholders.
